    Mary’s Botanicals: Yes Please

Over Christmas I was given a little travel kit with a  lovely super scented assortment of natural products by Mary's Botanicals designed for the horse and rider. Let's just say, I'm addicted to the peppermint lip balm, the OTTB loves his muscle spray and my entryway now smells like a wonderful clove induced wonderland as opposed to an equestrian mud room. Mary's B won my heart immediately so I was especially excited to try some more products. All of Mary's products are researched and natural based  with infinite avenues for applications and can be used on horses, humans and even [...]

This makes for a Movie right?

I think we can all agree that taxes are well 'taxing'. The time, preparation and fear that rolls around every year is tiresome at best, but we all agree it's something we have to do. Well most of us. I came across this twist of a story today (yes, I know I'm a little late) about 14 world-class jumpers going to be auctioned off by the US treasury department online.  Okay, you caught my attention. A tale of a father, Alejandro Andrade, unraveled. Apparently, Andrade was sentenced to 10 years in prison in November for money laundering and as part [...]

    What’s all the hate about?

So here's the deal, I waited until the buzz wore off and decided I'd address this really cool editorial that caused quite a hate fest on the equine media channels. Firstly, I'll start by saying that whenever a fashion magazine, such as ELLE, comes out with a horse on the cover I'm excited and I look at it as a win for EQluxe as this is what we're trying to do. Now, the thing that bothered me about this editorial is that whomever the art director was they were not a horse person, as they would have never chosen the [...]

BREEDERS’ CUP what you need to know

THE CLASSIC It's time! Saturday November 3 it's the running of the BREEDERS' CUP CLASSIC! How many of you West Coasters are bumming out right now that you're not at Santa Anita or Del Mar today? I am. For the last few years we have always designed our Novembers' around the Cup. EQluxe will be proudly represented at the VIP hotel lounges so I guess we're there in spirit...but [...]

    ON TRACK with HERMES SS19

So you couldn't imagine our excitement when we found out that HERMES was showing it's latest SPRING RTW 2019 collection at the Longines racetrack.  We had just finished our latest  issue (due out October 23) where we featured OTTB aftercares and actually shot an editorial at a racetrack. Naturally, we all  patted ourselves on the back for being so on point with the future. LOL. We like doing that, patting ourselves on the backs, it's what keeps us going as equestrians. Needless to say, the Hermes collection, devoid of anything horsey this time around,  walked an unusual, sophisticated line between [...]

    50 years of Taste

No one can pull off a pair of jeans and cowboy boots topped with a tuxedo better than Ralph Lauren. As a brand, RL can quite simply be summed up into 3 words; style, taste and tradition.  For 50 years Ralph Lauren has been delivering rugged rancher looks for play, streamlined tailoring for work and stunning silhouettes for night that we can all agree might as well be the American equivalent of apple pie because it's just as synonymous.  From Polo to Gatsby pinstripes he took an elevated lifestyle and made it available and appreciated by all. Yesterday during New [...]

    Quick guide to POLO

Polo, where do we start? Well, it's not just a clothing brand donned by Nacho Figueras.  Great place to start though. The vision doesn't suck. The game itself is the perfect combination of  power, balance, coordination, quick decision making, strategy and skill.  I mean in a nutshell you are trying to hit a tiny rolling ball on a moving horse with a 4 foot long mallet while your opponent is trying to prevent you from doing so. Polo is athleticism and horsemanship at it's best. It's a sport all on it's own. It's challenging, complicated and takes a ton of [...]

    ARIAT Terrain Pro Zip Review

Written by Emily M When I mentioned I was interested in pursuing some endurance riding I was suggested the ARIAT Terrain Pro Zip Boots.  As a rider I was a little skeptical as they seemed more like a hiking boot than a riding boot. A little chunky if you will in the heel.  Disclaimer. I have a memory of having hiking boots stuck in my stirrups. I was 8, it was winter, and my pony was frisky that day. I wasn't dragged nor did I  fall off, but having your boot stuck in a stirrup to any degree is never [...]

INCH in a pinch: CHEATA REVIEW

Okay it almost pains me to have to write reviews on body slimming compression products during summer. They're usually hot, sticky, hard to get into and don't even get me started on the getting out process. BUT I was happy to write about it when I tried on the CHEATA compression garments.  They were comfortable, breathable and slimming and coming from a woman who is a little top heavy the compression TROTTER BRA was the perfect solution. The construction smoothed out my lumps and gave me the support I needed without limiting my range of movement or in my case [...]

Ok, so anyone who knows me understands my obsession with beauty products. Triumph and Will

I asked if I could interview the woman who helped in bringing the EQUUS film festival here to Los Angeles.  Hearing her tell the tale pulled my heart strings and it brought tears to my eyes. Not because her tale is sad per se, but because of the overwhelming feeling and pure will that went into her story and its result. The result is that of seeing her hard work and progress in completion and being recognized as someone who stuck to it and in return helped others along the way. Let me introduce you to Naomi Boinus-Reehorst. Naomi, a [...]

    CHLOE and the HORSES

Chloe is not new to the steed-emblazoned looks.  Natacha Ramsay Levi is still riding high on her equestrian 70s statements and it has proven the fashion house well so why stop there? Resort is full of jersey dresses, blouses and chunky jewelry that has the horse stamp all over it. We thank you Natacha for once again bucking the norm and embracing the beloved horse. Here are some of our favs from the collection

    DIOR holy escaramuzas!

On Friday, Dior kicked off the first of three Resort 2019 shows to take place in France Louis Vuitton and Gucci are following suit. Dior  Billed the show as “Diorodeo,” and paid homage to the Mexican horsewomen known as the escaramuzas, horseback performers who defied Mexican tradition and won the right to join the normally male-dominated sport. It also referenced Chilean author Isabel Allende’s novel, The House of Spirits, which stars independent female characters. Taking place in the Grandes Ecuries du Domaine de Chantilly in a riding ring decorated with Maypole ribbons, the show had front-row guests gladly opting for [...]

    PONIES IN FILM

All of us at EQluxe were very excited when we heard of a film festival where the content is purely horse driven.  We were even more excited when we learned that the festival offering everything from film to equestrian clinics was stopping in Los Angeles on its tour! A little background to fill you in, The EQUUS film festival, the first of it's kind,  was created to highlight and award the efforts of those who pay homage to the horse. The festival, launched in 2013, empowers creatives to show the diverse relationship between human and horse through a directive of [...]

    TACKY TIPS

Spring Cleaning is upon us. Yep, it's time to clean up that leather, polish those bits and prepare our tack for a fun summer of riding and showing.  Here's some quick tips to help in the prep and cleaning of your whites, bits, and brushes.   Bits, Irons and Brass We've all been taught the "dip the bit" in water and lightly towel dry it after a ride. By doing this you're insuring your precious mount doesn't go from day to day with a crusty bit in their mouth. Bit wipes are awesome. And some are even flavored! We like [...]

    Minted CUPCAKES

Well it looks like the Triple Crown is upon us starting with the big daddy that starts it all the Kentucky Derby.  Now all horses aside, the Derby brings with it a certain pomp and circumstance like no other. So,without sounding like a total southern deb, the mint julep is great but I think we can do better. I'm going to need to bake..probably in a funny hat with the TV on. For those of you not in know, The mint julep is a mixed cocktail made with bourbon, water, crushed or shaved ice, and fresh mint. It's delicious but [...]
