Imagine a scene like this: Manadiers wrangle a herd of galloping Camargue horses through a marshland before you. The sound of their thundering hooves resonate in your soul. Should we add a sunset dropping onto the horizon for a poetic touch? Should the horses gallop off into it? Yes Please. This may sound like a brain session between writers making the next epic film but no, just Pierre Alexis Dumas, the artistic director for Hermès being Dumas.
“Astonishment is a human quality: it’s the ability to wonder, to surprise ourselves, and to reinvent ourselves.” So said Pierre-Alexis Dumas, artistic director of Hermès, as he stood by an open fire late Tuesday night and addressed the crowd of 150 people in Camargue to unveil the “Astonishment” theme for 2023.
“We wanted to place the horse at the center of this event. Especially as the Camargue has such astonishing horses,” explained the house’s creative director Pierre Alexis Dumas.
The height of the soiree’ was of course the unbridled herd racing wild across the blood ORANGE sky, kicking up water before the crowd and epitomizing the force behind the iconic French brand. A horse girl’s dream come true by any standard. Bravo Hermès again.
