David learned to ride as a young boy, encouraged by his father’s own love of horses. It was then that he discovered and was fascinated by the freedom that he experienced—the same freedom he believes is essential for creating art. Years later he began riding with a group of friends, the Kozmic Kowboys, using their annual trail rides to decompress and reconnect with that original feeling.
David continued exploring equestrian themes, creating mixed metal designs that became his iconic Thoroughbred Collection. Thoroughbred celebrated the purity of design without accent stones or embellishment. In the 1980s, he also created the Buckle Collection, inspired by equestrian tack. Components of the bridle became prominent design motifs that were not only functional, but essential and beautiful.
