So the year has been rather blah. We can admit it. The Derby didn’t run in May, The Belmont ran first and here on Labor day weekend we are celebrating the Derby without fans just private invites. All of this pandemic chaos aside, we still have some amazing horses racing towards that garland of roses.

Here’s where the racers stand today. Finnick the Fierce and  King Guillermo scratched. So it looks as if there will be a 16 horse field. Tiz the Law came in this morning with 3-5 odds on winning. I love everything about this horse but I also love Honor A.P with our lovely Mike Smith aboard.  Honor A.P. and the Baffert trained Authentic will all be leaving the gate next to each other so it should definitely make for a fantastic break and exciting Derby.

If you’re looking for a horse to do well in placings you might want to look at Sole Volante or NY Traffic.

Our favorite long shots Storm the Court who’s trained by Peter Eurton and ridden by Julien Leparoux after winning at the Breeder’s Cup is a hail mary bet coming in currently at 60-1. We have the inside track that the jockey still believes in this horse and well, if he can get out of the gate quickly and maintain he’s a decent long shot contender.   Also thinking Major Fed. With a home court advantage, he’s a contender. Chances are though his odds will improve as the locals know about this horse.

I think I’ll do a few trifecta straight and box bets at 50 cents and mix them up. And baby if a 60-1 comes in 3rd it’s still a pretty decent payout!

Have fun! I want to see everyone’s hats in the living room today.
