MILTON MENASCO’S MOST COVETABLE VALENTINE’S DAY GIFT GUIDE

Compiled and Written by Alli Addison of Milton Menasco and Photography by Elizabeth Hay Love is in the air! This Valentine's Day we asked Alli Addison, the chic and sometimes irreverent equestrian mind behind the popular IG tag @miltonmenasco (follow her) to divulge her most covetable items on her Valentine’s Day wants and gifting list. And Yes, her list includes that big grey we all dream about. WANT: I’m a sucker for a good coffee table book. This year Assouline debuted their latest equestrian-inspired tome, Wellington: The World of Horses. It’s 215 pages of visually stunning, behind-the-scenes horse show goodness, [...]

GUCCI #OfCourseAHorse

For Gucci it's no surprise that their S/S 2020 campaign would be well "out there".  Creative Director and Designer Alessandro Michele enlisted Director Yorgos Lanthimos of "The Lobster" knowing it would not only be a little strange but most likely involve animals? Lucky guess, I think not. We were super pleased to see our favorite spirit animal, the HORSE, gracing the pages of the campaign and the fashion film. Lanthimos creates a surreal world where fashion is clearly in the eye of the beholder and a pony is your partner in crime. Scroll through below and see Los Angeles in [...]

Fly with the Eagles.

Riding with a helmet and sunglasses can sometimes be a little daunting. Most of the time you can't really see through the lens or there's an uncomfortable fit. We've all been there. Most of us have experienced that annoying rub or slip down the nose or worst yet that blinding oncoming sunlight. Sure we'd love to invest in some protective eye gear, but in the end, we usually choose something that looks cool and that we don't really care about. Accidents do happen and I'm not squashing my Diors. I'm just not. I don't care how good they look. So, [...]

GIDDY UP

It's trending. Ponies, cowboys, boots and hats are making a comeback and we couldn't be happier. We imagine by next fall we will have gone full circle and there will be breeches once again parading down the runway. But for now, It's all about the RANCH. For 2020 Resort, Donatella Versace went West, referencing rodeo queens. Women she felt exuded the sexy spirit of adventure and a fearless femininity. The mythology of the American West was one of her brother Gianni’s enduring fascinations; in 1992 he made headlines with a collection featuring cowboys and cowgirls in studded black leather regalia, [...]

What’s all the hate about?

So here's the deal, I waited until the buzz wore off and decided I'd address this really cool editorial that caused quite a hate fest on the equine media channels. Firstly, I'll start by saying that whenever a fashion magazine, such as ELLE, comes out with a horse on the cover I'm excited and I look at it as a win for EQluxe as this is what we're trying to do. Now, the thing that bothered me about this editorial is that whomever the art director was they were not a horse person, as they would have never chosen the [...]

BREEDERS’ CUP what you need to know

THE CLASSIC It's time! Saturday November 3 it's the running of the BREEDERS' CUP CLASSIC! How many of you West Coasters are bumming out right now that you're not at Santa Anita or Del Mar today? I am. For the last few years we have always designed our Novembers' around the Cup. This November it just so happened that the Cup is being held at the famous Churchill Downs in Louisville KY so none of us know what to do with our weekend. EQluxe will be proudly represented at the VIP hotel lounges so I guess we're there in spirit...but [...]

ON TRACK with HERMES SS19

So you couldn't imagine our excitement when we found out that HERMES was showing it's latest SPRING RTW 2019 collection at the Longines racetrack.  We had just finished our latest  issue (due out October 23) where we featured OTTB aftercares and actually shot an editorial at a racetrack. Naturally, we all  patted ourselves on the back for being so on point with the future. LOL. We like doing that, patting ourselves on the backs, it's what keeps us going as equestrians. Needless to say, the Hermes collection, devoid of anything horsey this time around,  walked an unusual, sophisticated line between [...]

50 years of Taste

No one can pull off a pair of jeans and cowboy boots topped with a tuxedo better than Ralph Lauren. As a brand, RL can quite simply be summed up into 3 words; style, taste and tradition.  For 50 years Ralph Lauren has been delivering rugged rancher looks for play, streamlined tailoring for work and stunning silhouettes for night that we can all agree might as well be the American equivalent of apple pie because it's just as synonymous.  From Polo to Gatsby pinstripes he took an elevated lifestyle and made it available and appreciated by all. Yesterday during New [...]

Quick guide to POLO

Polo, where do we start? Well, it's not just a clothing brand donned by Nacho Figueras.  Great place to start though. The vision doesn't suck. The game itself is the perfect combination of  power, balance, coordination, quick decision making, strategy and skill.  I mean in a nutshell you are trying to hit a tiny rolling ball on a moving horse with a 4 foot long mallet while your opponent is trying to prevent you from doing so. Polo is athleticism and horsemanship at it's best. It's a sport all on it's own. It's challenging, complicated and takes a ton of [...]

INCH in a pinch: CHEATA REVIEW

Okay it almost pains me to have to write reviews on body slimming compression products during summer. They're usually hot, sticky, hard to get into and don't even get me started on the getting out process. BUT I was happy to write about it when I tried on the CHEATA compression garments.  They were comfortable, breathable and slimming and coming from a woman who is a little top heavy the compression TROTTER BRA was the perfect solution. The construction smoothed out my lumps and gave me the support I needed without limiting my range of movement or in my case [...]

CHLOE and the HORSES

Chloe is not new to the steed-emblazoned looks.  Natacha Ramsay Levi is still riding high on her equestrian 70s statements and it has proven the fashion house well so why stop there? Resort is full of jersey dresses, blouses and chunky jewelry that has the horse stamp all over it. We thank you Natacha for once again bucking the norm and embracing the beloved horse. Here are some of our favs from the collection

DIOR holy escaramuzas!

On Friday, Dior kicked off the first of three Resort 2019 shows to take place in France Louis Vuitton and Gucci are following suit. Dior  Billed the show as “Diorodeo,” and paid homage to the Mexican horsewomen known as the escaramuzas, horseback performers who defied Mexican tradition and won the right to join the normally male-dominated sport. It also referenced Chilean author Isabel Allende’s novel, The House of Spirits, which stars independent female characters. Taking place in the Grandes Ecuries du Domaine de Chantilly in a riding ring decorated with Maypole ribbons, the show had front-row guests gladly opting for [...]

Couturella top ten boots

So you're going to Coachella. We all know it's not just for HITS horse shows and Sunday Polo right? Now there seems to be this mindset that in order to enjoy yourself at this music festival in the desert you have to dress like it's Halloween or your neighbor's 70s 4th of July themed BBQ.  This is definitely not the case.  Let's start with your feet and take it from there. Here are our top ten stable to festival, if you will, boots that will not only get you noticed, but keep your feet cozy on the fields. OLD GRINGO  [...]

Harnessing the Roots

Who doesn't love themselves some vintage Hermès? Well I know I do so of course we couldn't wait to check out the latest exhibit in Beverly Hills. The exhibit is free to the public but it ends tomorrow! So if you're in the LA area get your tushy over the hill and check it out. “Harnessing the Roots” is designed by Bruno Gaudichon, the curator of “La Piscine” Museum of Art and Industry in Roubaix, France, who worked with scenographer Laurence Fontaine. Together, they decided to arrange the objects by theme rather than chronology, focusing on harnesses and their metamorphoses. [...]
